Mower County is located along the southern line of counties. It is named for John Edward Mower, a territorial legislatior.
The seat and largest city is Austin. The Cedar River rises in rural Dodge County and flows through this county.
Mower County is served by I-90, US-63, US-218, MN-16 and MN-56. The county is largely rural.
It borders Dodge, Olmsted, Freeborn and Fillmore counties, as well as Howard, Mitchell and Worth Counties in Iowa.
